The release date of superstar Salman Khan's highly anticipated film 'Sultan' has been confirmed. The sports drama will hit the silver screens on Wednesday, July 6, instead of a regular Friday release.
The movie’s director Ali Abbas Zafar took to Twitter and confirmed the news. “Sultan will release on 6th July 2016," the ‘Gunday’ maker tweeted.
Produced by Yash Raj Films, ‘Sultan’ is based on Haryanvi wrestler Sultan Ali Khan Cheema and his quest to prove himself by getting a spot in the Olympics. The movie comes with a powerful tagline that reads, ‘Wrestling is not a sport, it's about the fighting that lies within’.
Salman eassys the titular character of the wrestler. Anushka Sharma, who is cast opposite the ‘Dabangg’ actor, also plays the role of a wrestler named Aarfa. The movie also stars Randeep Hooda as a coach, and Amit Sadh.
Traditionally, Salman releases his new movies on the occasion of Eid, while Diwali is reserved for Shah Rukh Khan and Christmas slot is taken by Aamir Khan. Salman’s films like ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, ‘Kick’, ‘Dabangg’, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ have hit screens on Eid.
There have been exceptions to the rule though. Like Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Chennai Express’ came out on Eid in 2013, while Salman’s ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ was a Diwali treat last year.
