The Supreme Court has asked Karisma Kapoor and her estranged husband Sunjay Kapur to appear before the court to resolve their divorce dispute amicably. Karisma was seen outside the SC but Sunjay was missing.
Earlier this week, The Supreme Court asked the respective lawyers of both the parties to settle the divorce case amicably. To this, the lawyers responded positively. Karisma and Sunjay’s divorce battle turned messy with every passing day with both the parties blaming each other.
Speaking to mid-day, Karisma’s lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani said, “The court asked if the parties can settle the matter. I said, yes there had been a settlement already, but they (Sunjay) backed out. They (Sunjay’s lawyers) said they are still willing to settle. The court then called us in the chamber and said let’s try and settle the matter.”
He added, “The Supreme Court suggested the settlement and is monitoring it. Both the parties are in agreement.”
If the couple agrees to settle the issue amicably then their other disputes like the domestic violence case and custody of their children will also be settled. They can also file a divorce petition on the grounds of mutual consent once again.
It was not too late when Sunjay claimed that Karisma married him for his money, the actress then counter attacked on her estranged hubby by filing a case of dowry and mental harassment against Sunjay and his mother Rani Surinder Kapur.
A couple of days ago, police recorded Karisma’s statement and registered an FIR in the matter. In her complain, Karisma alleged that over a period of time the Kapurs mentally harassed her.
Based on her statement, the Khar police have registered an FIR (no 98/16) under the dowry section — 498 (A): husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty — and Section 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
Karisma's counsels Mahesh Jethmalani and Sandeep Kapoor said that Sunjay had violated some clauses before the mutual consent divorce petition was filed in Mumbai.
Sanjay's lawyer responded that his client was ready to pay both Rs. 10 lakh per month per child and even make over the Rs. 14 crore on the maturity of the bonds, but Karisma must ensure that Sunjay can meet his children.
